Retail trade volumes in the euro area and the EU saw slight improvements in July 2024, according to Eurostat data. Compared to June, the seasonally adjusted retail trade volume increased by 0.1 per cent in the euro area and by 0.2 per cent in the EU. This followed a 0.4 per cent decline in both regions in June 2024. Year-on-year, the euro area saw a marginal 0.1 per cent decrease in retail sales, while the EU recorded a 0.4 per cent increase. In July 2024, food, drinks, and tobacco sales grew by 0.4 per cent in the euro area and 0.5 per cent in the EU. Non-food products rose by 0.1 per cent in the euro area and 0.2 per cent in the EU, while sales of automotive fuel declined by 1.0 per cent and 1.4 per cent, respectively. Among member states, Croatia led with a 2.9 per cent monthly increase in retail trade, while Luxembourg experienced the largest decline at 2.1 per cent. Attribution: Eurostat Subediting: M. S.
