Jordan's exports down 1% in H1 '24

Jordan's exports in the first half of 2024 decreased by 1.0 per cent to JD4.444 billion from JD4.490 billion last year. National exports experienced a more pronounced drop of 3.7 percent, falling to JD4.018 billion from JD4.174 billion.
Imports saw a slight reduction of 0.6 per cent, totaling JD8.883 billion, compared to JD8.934 billion in the same period last year. Conversely, re-exports increased significantly by 34.8 per cent to JD426 million from JD316 million.
This led to a minor narrowing of Jordan's trade deficit by 0.1 per cent to JD4.439 billion, with the export-to-import coverage ratio holding steady at 50 per cent.
In June 2024, total exports amounted to JD815 million, including JD741 million in national exports and JD74 million in re-exports. Imports for the month reached JD1.391 billion, resulting in a trade deficit of JD576 million.
Compared to June 2023, total exports fell by 1.8 per cent, national exports dropped by 5.2 per cent, and re-exports surged by 54.2 per cent. Imports increased by 5.7 per cent, leading to an 18.5 per cent rise in the trade deficit. The export coverage ratio for imports decreased to 59 per cent from 63 per cent last year.
