Denmark's Maersk has announced potential plans to resume certain shipping services at the US Port of Baltimore following the anticipated opening of a temporary channel, according to a Reuters report on Wednesday. This channel, boasting a depth of 20 feet, could facilitate limited barge operations for Maersk and other carriers, granting access for commercially vital vessels currently obstructed by a collapsed bridge, the company disclosed on Wednesday. Last week, Maersk highlighted concerns that the port's alternative shipping routes lacked the necessary depth to accommodate the large container ships typically utilised by Maersk and other carriers. The collapse of Baltimore's harbour bridge last month, resulting from a collision with a container ship chartered by the Danish group, tragically claimed six lives. Notably, the Singapore-flagged Dali vessel involved in the incident is owned by Grace Ocean Pte Ltd and managed by Synergy Marine Group, with no Maersk crew members aboard. Shipping operations in Baltimore are slated to return to full capacity by the end of May.
