Uganda's Museveni, head of RSF meet to discuss Sudan
Published in Amwal Al Ghad on 28 - 12 - 2023

Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, head of Sudan's paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF), announced on Wednesday that he met with Uganda's President Yoweri Museveni.
Dagalo, whose location during the conflict has been unknown, stated on X that the meeting between him and Museveni included discussions about the current developments in Sudan, as well as his hopes for peace talks to end the conflict.
This was Dagalo's first confirmed trip outside of Sudan since the RSF and Sudanese army's conflict broke out back in April.
Moreover, Museveni confirmed that the meeting took place, also on a post on X. He stated that he welcomed the RSF's head at his country home in Rwakitura.
Despite multiple rounds of diplomacy to stop the fighting, Sudan's army and the RSF have been involved in a conflict that has destroyed the country's capital, Khartoum, and sparked waves of forced displacement in Darfur since mid-April.
Furthermore, the RSF has been establishing dominance; earlier this month, it captured the nation's capital city of Wad Madani.
Notably, the RSF soldiers have been accused of killing and robbing civilians, including those in nearby villages, allegations which they deny.
In a statement released on Wednesday, the foreign ministry of Sudan said that Dagalo was unable to travel to Djibouti, the current chair of the regional organisation IGAD, for the first meeting that was scheduled to take place with Sudan's army chief, Abdel Fattah al-Burhan.
According to the statement, the meeting has been rescheduled to an undisclosed date in January due to "technical issues,"
Additionally, a source with knowledge of the matter told Reuters that the meeting was postponed due to disagreements between the two parties involved. However, no additional information was provided.
Today, I had the pleasure of visiting our sister country of Uganda and participating in a fruitful meeting with H.E. President @KagutaMuseveni⁩. During the meeting, we discussed developments in Sudan and how to best address the hardships faced by our people. I briefed the... pic.twitter.com/KmwZdcPE3O
