The UN General Assembly voted on Tuesday in favour of an immediate ceasefire in Gaza with global support to put an end to the Israeli attacks. The 193-member world body witnessed a vote in favour of 153 members, with ten against, and 23 abstentions. Opposing the ceasefire were the United States and Israel along with Austria, Czechia, Guatemala, Liberia, Micronesia, Nauru, Papua New Guinea, and Paraguay. The vote helps show the growing isolation of the US and Israel resulting from the Israeli vicious attacks on innocent civilians. The US vetoed on Friday a resolution calling for a ceasefire in the Security Council. Therefore, Arab and Islamic nations called for an emergency session of the General Assembly to vote on a resolution with the same demand. General Assembly resolutions are not legally binding, unlike those of the Security Council. However, they "are also very important" since they reflect world opinion, UN spokesperson Stephane Dujarric said on Monday. So far, the Israeli aggression on Gaza killed more than 18,000 Palestinians and wounded more than 49,000.
