Published in Amwal Al Ghad on 08 - 11 - 2022

Egypt's green hydrogen production project will be opened on Tuesday during the 27th UN climate change summit (COP27), which has inaugurated by the Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi on Monday.
It will be the first project in Ain Sokhna region for green hydrogen production, as it was established through Egyptian and Norwegian cooperation between a coalition of companies from the two countries, sources at the Ministry of Electricity, said.
The sources added the new project is a pivotal step within the framework of the government's strategy to expand clean energy and green hydrogen projects.
Sources pointed out that during COP27, the government will activate memorandums of understanding that had signed for production and export of green hydrogen field and operate these projects to exploit their production and export abroad.
During the round table entitled Innovative Financing Climate and Development, the Prime Minister said that Egypt has capacity to generate 400 gigawatts of new and renewable energy sources.
Egypt can export this energy to countries all over the world, but the main obstacle remains the provision of funding for those projects, which will contribute to achieving the mitigation goals and saving the planet from the devastating effects of climate change, he added.
Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly has praised the cooperation with Belgian companies in the field of clean energy and green hydrogen, during his meeting with the Belgian Prime Minister on Monday evening.
Madbouly stressed that the government's desire to redouble this cooperation and facilitate the implementation of all Belgian companies' projects in Egypt.
Ministry of Electricity has managed to operate four 20MW solar power plants in Sharm El Sheikh in preparation for the climate conference.
It also supervised the installation of a further 10 other plants located above building roofs and connected them to the electrical network, including Sharm El Sheikh Airport, Sharm El Sheikh City Council, Sharm El Sheikh International Hospital, and a number of villages and hotels.
