French oil and gas company TotalEnergies and its Egyptian partner ENARA Group signed on Wednesday a memorandum of understanding to establish green ammonia facility in Suez Canal city of Ain Sokhna.
TotalEnergies and ENARA signed the agreement with General Authority for Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZone), the Sovereign Fund of Egypt (TSFE), Egyptian Electricity Transmission (EETC), and New and Renewable Energy Authority (NREA) to jointly establish the facility project.
Egyptian Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly, Minister of Electricity Mohamed Shaker, and Planning Minister Hala al-Saeed witnessed the signing ceremony.
According to the agreement, the TotalEnergies-ENARA consortium will build and operate a facility with a production capacity of 300,000 tons of green ammonia annually as a first stage, said General Authority for Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZone) chairman Yehia Zaki in a Cabinet statement.
The facility is set to produce one million and half tons of green ammonia annually after the completion of all stages, Zaki added.
The agreement was signed by Yehia Zaki, chairman of SCZONE; Ayman Soliman, chief executive of TSFE; Sabah Mashali, chairperson of EETC; Mohammed El Khayat, chairman of NREA; Romain de La Martinière, managing director for Total Energies EP Egypt; and Sherif EL Gabaly, founder and chairman of ENARA.
