Published in Amwal Al Ghad on 07 - 04 - 2021

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al Sisi said that climate changes presents an existential challenge for Africa.
He added that the continent is suffering a huge loss due to the extreme climate events arising from it, especially worsening water shortages in some countries
Sisi made the remarks at a virtual high-level conference organized by the African Development Bank Group (AfDB) in cooperation with the Global Center on Adaptation (GCA) to discuss "the extraordinary effects of the Covid-19 pandemic and climate change in Africa."
In his remarks during the event, Sisi warned of the grave consequences of water scarcity, which threatens the future of some African nations, endangering their peace and security, according to a statement by Presidential Spokesman Bassam Rady.
The president also underscored the need for enhancing access to climate adaptation finance from developed to developing countries to improve their ability to deal with the adverse impacts of the global phenomenon.
Sisi also emphasised Egypt's long-standing commitment to supporting any efforts to address climate change adaptation, whether at the national, regional or international levels, extending an official offer to host the 27th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) in Egypt.
The event saw the participation of heads of state and government of some African countries, French President Emmanuel Macron, German Chancellor Angela Merkel, the UN secretary-general Antonio Guterres and a great host of senior officials from relevant international bodies.
