The visit of Gamal Mubarak, President Hosni Mubarak's son and the ruling party's general secretary of the policy committee, together with five ministers to the Manshaet Radwan village in the Delta governorate of Sharqiya witnessed heated events. Security forces failed to prevent the villagers from crowding around Mubarak to ask him to alleviate their severe living conditions. Farmers asked him to reduce the debts they owe the state-owned Agricultural Credit and Development Bank, and to come up with new policies for agriculture that protect them from the fluctuating prices of crops. Mubarak told them that the government already waived 50 percent of those debts, and that it will put down a new medical insurance scheme that will cover all farmers completely.
