Akef: Supreme Guide not selected yet
Published in Almasry Alyoum on 26 - 12 - 2009

The name of the new ٍgeneral guide will be announced within days, said Brotherhood Supreme Guide, Mahdi Akef, adding that news that the new guide has already been determined is unfounded.
In exclusive statements to Al-Masry Al-Youm, Akef said that selecting the new guide isn't easy because it requires several procedures that lead up to the declaration of the Supreme Guide (Murshid)
Sources from within the Brotherhood told Al-Masry Al-Youm that elections for the new supreme guide haven't yet been conducted. Osama Nasr el-Din, a member of the Guidance Bureau, said that the Brotherhood hasn't sent a list of the candidates running for the position to the Brotherhood members overseas.
The Guidance Bureau is currently fixing some internal matters, said the sources, adding that a spokesperson for the group is going to be appointed. Essam el-Eryan tops the list of candidates for this position because he maintains a good relationship with the press and media, affirmed the source. Other measures are being taken to adjust the performance of the group's media office whose performance deteriorated over the past years, the sources added.
Abdel Monem Maqsoud, one of the lawyers of the group, criticized some researchers and media professionals for incitement, saying, "There are researchers and so-called political elites inciting the security bodies. I warn them that history won't have mercy on them." Maqsoud further emphasized the group's keenness on adhering to democratic practices despite suppression by security forces, which includes detaining 300 Brotherhood leaders in prisons."
