Egyptian Attorney General Abdel Meguid Mahmoud has sent Fathi Sorour, the speaker of parliament, a report by the Administrative Control Authority documenting excesses in the state-funded medical care program. Excesses included treatments that are not listed in the program, such as plastic surgeries, physio-therapy, teeth whitening and hair transplantation. The report also said that certain individuals who are not in need of state funding were unfairly enrolled in the program. The report implicates seven MPs--four from the ruling National Democratic Party, two from the Muslim Brotherhood and one independent--who have allegedly given permission for treatment in questionable cases, The report also said that cabinet employees were enrolled in the state-funded program though they already receive coverage through a separate medical fund.
