Some 30 Egyptian activists staged demonstrations in front of the Egyptian embassy in London for two hours on Saturday to protest the death of Khaled Saeed, who was allegedly beaten to death by police in Alexandria two weeks ago. The protesters, members of the National Association for Change (NAC), shouted slogans against President Hosni Mubarak, Ahmed Othman -- the police officer accused of killing Saeed -- and Interior Minister Habib el-Adli, who they accused of whitewashing the crime. They also condemned Egypt's emergency law and human rights record, along with the state-run media for its attempts to justify the incident. "We are sending a message to the regime and its official media that they are conniving with the murderer," said protester Ossama Roushdi. "We also want to tell the political forces at home that we serve as their representatives abroad." According to NAC member Sali Moore, the association plans to hold a conference in London at the end of this month to discuss the dangers implicit in Egypt's longstanding emergency law.
