The ruling Supreme Council of the Armed Forces (SCAF) said on Monday that it had asked the government to form a fact-finding committee to investigate the violence that took place outside the state-TV building, Maspiro, in central Cairo on Sunday. Clashes left 25 killed and 511 injured, according to the Health Ministry. In a statement aired on state TV, the SCAF said, “All legal measures will be taken against whomever is proven to have incited or been involved in the incidents.” It also said, “The council doesn't want to respond to attempts to create a division between the people and the armed forces, which only aims at destroying the country and hindering democracy.” The SCAF said it has prioritized restoring security on the streets and confirmed that it will implement the road map for the transfer of power to a civilian government. It said it is currently holding an urgent meeting to seek a solution to the crisis. Observers have speculated that recent violence may mean the SCAF will postpone the parliamentary elections, currently slated to start on 28 November.
