Prosecution shows pictures and video clips in ''Battle of the Camel'' trial
Published in Almasry Alyoum on 12 - 09 - 2011

More than two hours of video clips and pictures were shown by prosecution lawyers in the ‘Battle of the Camel' trial on Monday.
The material was intended to support the prosecution case against those accused of organizing violent attacks on pro-democracy demonstrators during the revolution. However, the defendants said the materials did not implicate them in any way.
The visual materials showed incidents that took place on 25 and 28 January and on 2 February, in addition to other incidents in Alexandria and Suez. They also showed a vehicle that ran over demonstrators, and camels charging into Tahrir Square.
Mortada Mansour, one of the defendants, complained that the CDs and pictures presented were not in sealed evidence bags, but the judge told him that he had personally opened them.
Ragab Hilal Hemeida, another defendant, claimed the clips prove his innocence. “They show the wounded being treated in my mosque,” he said.
Safwat al-Sherif, a high-profile defendant and former speaker of the Shura Council, said the eyewitnesses in their testimonies were not sure of what they said. “They kept saying 'I think' and 'I believe,'” he said.
Meanwhile, Fathi Sorour, former speaker of the People's Assembly, who is also on trial for organizing the violence, kept silent throughout the session.
