The Freedom and Justice Party, the Muslim Brotherhood's political arm, will not take part in protests planned for Friday in Tahrir Square, the party's secretary general has said. The Brotherhood's website on Monday quoted Secretary General Saad al-Katatny as saying, "The target of the million-man protests that have been staged since the revolution's success is pressing for achieving the revolution's main objectives. They already achieved many of the demands." Katatny said that achieving the demands “highlights the necessity of coordination among all forces on the political arena ahead of organizing any event so it can achieve its goal.” He said those calling for Friday protests do not agree on definite targets. The Freedom and Justice Party, Katatny said, believes officials should be given the opportunity to achieve the people's demands, but if they are not met people should return to the square. Meanwhile, the April 6 Youth Movement said it will participate in the Friday protest, which has been called "Path Correction Friday." In a statement, it said many demands have not yet been met and pointed to several practices that are not appropriate in post-revolution Egypt, such as military trials for civilians. The movement said it will demand judiciary independence during the protest and call on the ruling military council to set a timeframe for handing over power to civilians.
