Local security departments around Egypt have named parts of their offices after the officers killed in an Israeli border raid late Thursday, the Interior Ministry announced Tuesday. "The decision was made out of appreciation for the security officers killed on duty while protecting Egypt's borders," the ministry said on its Facebook page. Six Egyptian military and security officers died in the raid, which Israel conducted after militants crossed into Israel and launched an attack that killed eight Israelis. The militants apparently crossed the border from Sinai. The Central Security Forces facility in Assiut, Upper Egypt, will be named after Captain Ahmed Galal Abdel Qader. The security department in Quwesna, Monufiya will put the name of Private Osama Galal Mohamed in a conference room. The security departments in Helwan and Daqahlia will name conference halls after privates Taha Mohamed Ibrahim Abdel Qader and Hassan Ibrahim Hassan Mohamed, respectively. The Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak admitted to regretting the deaths and said that Israel will conduct an investigation, but he did not issue an official apology, saying the shooting occurred by mistake during a raid targeting militants.
