Trial of former interior minister postponed

The trial of former interior minister Habib el-Adly on charges of killing protesters during the 25 January revolution was postponed today. The trial will continue on 25 July, the New Cairo Criminal Court said.
El-Adly was sentenced last month to 12 years in prison on corruption charges. He could face the death penalty for ordering the killing of protesters.
The former interior minister is seen as responsible for widespread human rights abuses at the hands of the security forces and was one of the most widely despised figures in the former regime.
Hundreds of demonstrators outside the courthouse in New Cairo erupted in angry protest after news reached them that the trial was adjourned, with some throwing stones at security forces.
On 20 June the trial of six high-ranking police officers in Alexandria charged with killing protesters was postponed until October. Former President Hosni Mubarak is set to stand trial on 3 August on charges of corruption and ordering the killing of protesters.
