Egypt's military is interacting with all segments of society to achieve the goals of the 25 January revolution, a member of the country's ruling Supreme Council of the Armed Forces (SCAF) said on Sunday. In an interview with Egyptian state TV, Staff Officer Mohamed al-Assar said the armed forces want to secure success for the revolution and accomplish the people's legitimate objectives. Assar said that since the start of the transitional period, the SCAF has been eager to communicate with young people. He said the military and the youth were partners in the revolution, and pointed out that there is a SCAF member tasked with interacting with youth. The military council plans to hold talks with different youth coalitions over the next few days, Assar added. He said the SCAF is also communicating with other sectors of society, including intellectuals, journalists, other people working in media, and the judiciary, with the aim of considering all points of view. Revolutionary youth groups have become increasingly dissatisfied with the SCAF due to restrictions on criticism against the armed forces' performance and the many violations the military is alleged to have committed against protesters.
