Sirens sound across Israel in nationwide war drill
Published in Almasry Alyoum on 26 - 05 - 2010

Knesset Speaker Ruby Rivlin yesterday ordered all members, employees and workers of the Knesset to take part in the "Turning Point 4" drill. At 11 AM today sirens were sounded throughout Israel and members of the public and public employees alike were required to enter the closest fortified area and remain inside for about ten minutes, in preparation for potential warfare between Israel, and Iran, Syria and Hezbullah.
Shlomo Brom, former chief of the strategic planning division of the Israeli Defense Forces, described four potential scenarios for a war being waged against Iran and the risk of opening three fronts vis a vis Syria, Hamas and Lebanon. He clarified that war will protect Israel in the future against Iran if it develops its nuclear program, and against Syria, Hezbullah and Hamas if strengthened by the balance of deterrence.
Israel should take the initiative of initiating a war against Syria, Iran, Hezbollah and Hamas, after the lessons learned from the 2006 war against Hezbullah and against Gaza in 2008, said Brom. Israeli leadership has realized that Iran, Syria, Hezbullah and Hamas have missiles that can target Israeli internally causing huge losses and therefore Israel should initiate a war before Iran is able to develop nuclear weapons and it becomes impossible to attack all the parties, if united, Brom added.
