Despite all flimsy perpetual attempts to secure Egyptian's food needs ,Egypt still pins hope on adopting whole package of measures to make food security on the government priority, most important we have been living in decades of economic inertia and full ignorance of the question of food security. Many policies should be taken to give priorities to produce the local needs of wheat, corn, cotton, sunflower and soy beans which are used in producing cooking oil to reduce Egypt's imports which reach 90 percent of cooking oil consumption. Ministry of agriculture and land proclamation announced an increase in the delivery prices of strategic crops for the current season. The former decision raised the delivery prices of wheat to 360le per ardab equals 150 kilogram's) depending on wheat quality. Back to strategies that should be taken, they are as follows First: There should clear schedule and policies to encourage farmers expand cultivation of strategic crops In an attempt to fulfill local needs and help local price go up to cope with the international prices . Second : we should think twice to increase the lands cultivated with cotton to reach 700.000 feddans ,most probably the international cotton prices proved right that prices will continue to be high which will encourage Egyptian farmers to cultivate cotton. In order to guarantee that the profit margin will go directly to farmers, not to mediators or traders, the ministry of agriculture should promptly find a unified system for collecting harvests from farmers to prevent interference of trades who buy the crops from farmers and resell them at high prices at the market. The third strategic crop is corn which should be totally at the highest priority of state agriculture policies .the cultivated area should increase from 1.5 to 3 million feddans and the delivery prices should be to some extent profitable to farmers. Third: we have to change the policies which have focused on developing an export-oriented agriculture production, leading to the marginalization of cultivating crops needed for local consumption so the government should provide financial support to farmers, not to exporters, since they are the real producers of agriculture products, and also to encourage them cultivate strategic crops.
