Egypt's April 6 Youth Movement on Monday accused thugs of assaulting one of its members, alleging they had connections with potential presidential candidate Amr Moussa, the current secretary general of the Arab League. In a statement, the group said thugs assaulted the group member during Moussa's conference in Minya on Sunday using white weapons, claiming they were instructed to do so by former National Democratic Party (NDP) member and MP Ahmed Moftah. The group said the thugs had supported the formerly ruling National Democratic Party (NDP), which is currently disbanded according to court orders. On Tuesday, Moussa began campaigning for presidency in Upper Egypt in the areas of Aswan, Luxor, Sohag, Qena, Assiut, Minya and Beni Suef. On Saturday, some people in Assiut became angry when Moussa held his rally at the home of a former NDP member who had coordinated the campaign of Gamal Mubarak, the former president's son. In a statement issued by his campaign Sunday, Moussa said "rioters" are managing an organized campaign to disrupt his rallies. Mohamed Adel, a member of the April 6 Youth Movement, said in the statement that Moussa's presidential campaign is managed by NDP members. He accused Moussa's campaign of assaulting opponents in a way similar to that of former President Hosni Mubarak's regime. Adel said the group will not forgive any such attacks against its members and that it plans to take legal action.
