In an effort to combat soaring retail prices for meat, the Governorate of Giza has announced plans to supply the local market with increased quantities of fish, to be sold locally at LE10 per kilo. "We took the decision after catching butchers selling meat that hadn't been authorized for sale by the Agriculture Ministry's veterinary services," said Giza Governor Fathi Saad. "We also found 365 kilos of meat that had been slaughtered outside licensed slaughterhouses." Meanwhile, head of the ministry's veterinary department Mahmoud Shaarawy said authorities had recently closed down 38 shops selling live poultry in violation of the law.
