More than 10,000 Egyptians evacuated from Libya

Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Hossam Zaki said Wednesday that 10,600 Egyptians have evacuated Libya, where bloody clashes have erupted as Libyans seek the ouster of Libyan President Muammar Qadhafi.
Zaki added that the number includes those who started to leave late on Tuesday by land via the Salloum border crossing. Egypt's Foreign Ministry is collaborating with other agencies to create a bridge linking Benghazi in Libya and Salloum in Egypt.
Zaki said the ministry is also communicating with Libyan officials to get permits for two more flights to transfer Egyptians from Tripoli airport on Wednesday.
Libyan authorities are not granting permission for more than two additional flights to land in Libya daily, according to Zaki.
Zaki called on Egyptians stationed in unsecured places to stay at home, especially at nighttime, and to contact the Egyptian embassy in Tripoli and the consulate in Benghazi to facillitate their return to Egypt.
The Egyptian community in Libya is estimated to be around 1.5 million people.
