The 25 January coalition Friday reiterated demands heard in Tahrir Square for the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces to disband the current government headed by Prime Minister Ahmed Shafiq. "We believe that the continuation of the current government is not commensurate with the nature of this critical period as it should be based on a revolutionary legitimacy. Therefore, we are asking for an interim technocratic government to run the state during the transitional period. We demand the government be headed by a civilian popular figure that is credible for the public," the coalition said in a statement. Thousands of Egyptians gathered in Tahrir Square on Friday to commemorate the ousting of President Mubarak last week. Ahmed Shafiq, the former Minister of Civil Aviation and head of the air force, is considered by the people to be a follower of Mubarak and part of the previous system. Activists said in their statement that some ministers who were not implicated in corruption cases, such as Finance Minister Samir Radwan, should keep their posts. The 25 January coalition is made up of the young people who participated in the revolution including Muslim Brotherhood activists, Mohamed ElBaradei supporters, and April 6 activists.
