Middle East quartet seeks meeting with Arab Peace Initiative Committee

The International quartet of Middle East peace mediators has requested a meeting with the Arab Peace Initiative committee next month, according to Arab League deputy chief Ahmed Ben Helli.
Ben Helli told reporters on Tuesday that the quartet--a group of entities from the United States, United Nations, European Union and Russia involved in mediating the Israeli-Palestinian peace process--hopes to hold the meeting in Munich on 5 February, but didn't reveal the reason for the meeting.
Arab League Secretary General Amr Moussa will hold talks to decide on the date of the meeting ahead of submitting a draft decision to the UN Security Council condemning settlement building in Palestine and demanding a construction freeze, Ben Helli said.
The draft decision refers to the illegitimacy of Israeli settlement building in Palestine. It also calls on Israel to halt construction and fulfill the commitments it made in previous agreements with the Palestinian authority, according to Ben Helli.
