ElBaradei eyes downtown HQ
Published in Almasry Alyoum on 01 - 04 - 2010

Possible presidential candidate Mohamed ElBaradei is currently looking for an office in downtown Cairo to host meetings with political leaders and activists, according to prominent talk show host and ElBaradei supporter Hamdi Qandil.
Until now, ElBaradei and the pro-reform coalition that he founded, the National Association for Change (NAC), have been hosting meetings in the former International Atomic Energy Agency director's home on the Cairo-Alexandria desert road.
Abdel Rahman Youssef, the general coordinator for the Popular Campaign Supporting ElBaradei, said that the NAC is scheduling visits for ElBaradei to all Egyptian governorates.
Safwan Mohamed, coordinator for the pro-democracy Ayez Haqqi Movement, said his group had sent invitations to a number of public figures along with NAC members to participate in a protest vigil organized by the 6 April Youth Movement in Alexandria.
A number of Muslim Brotherhood leaders and youth backed ElBaradei's decision to take to the street and launch a campaign for change, and also supported his visit to Mansoura, planned for Friday.
On the other hand, the leftist Tagammu Party reversed a decision to send a delegation to invite ElBaradei to visit the party's headquarters to initiate a dialogue around constitutional changes and political reforms.
Hussein Abdel Razeq, a Tagammu board member, told Al-Masry Al-Youm that party leader Refaat el-Saeed is satisfied with a statement issued weeks ago in which ElBaradei was invited for a visit.
In related news, ElBaradei supporters are calling for an online channel to broadcast, among other things, interviews with public dignitaries supporting ElBaradei.
Ali Eddin Helal, the media secretary of the ruling National Democratic Party, affirmed during a meeting with young party members in Suez that ElBaradei has not been invited to the NDP.
