Experts warned of Israel's manipulations in some African countries, particularly Eritrea, to reduce Egypt's quota of Nile water. They said Israel currently suffers a shortage in water that has fallen to 800 per capita cubic meters a year. African affairs expert Ayman Abdel Wahab denied that Egypt wastes the Nile water in the Mediterranean, an accusation by most Nile Basin countries that say Egypt benefits most from the Nile water.
He called for reviving the Gongli Canal project that was supposed to be done in the era of late President Sadat but was postponed due to Egyptian-Sudanese differences. “The canal would provide 2 billion cubic meters of water to Egypt,” he said.
African affairs expert Dr. Amani el-Tawil said the canal could provide 14 billion cubic meters to be shared between Egypt and the Sudan.
