The People's Assembly has omitted the interpellation of the Muslim Brotherhood (MB) MP Hamdi Hassan from the agenda and postponed its discussion to February. The interpellation accuses the government of bias in dealing with the Israeli blockade of Gaza by adopting methods in violation of international norms and traditions and exporting gas to Israel at low prices at a time when the Egyptians suffer a severe shortage of fuel. Council Speaker Dr. Fathi Sorour said it is a serious issue that should be discussed immediately, yet it would have to wait till February because the agenda is full. He told Hassan: “The Council will discuss your interpellation. You do not have to discuss it on Al-Jazeera channel.” Hassan said it should be discussed quickly, particularly that the coming period will witness the reconstruction of Gaza and the opening of the Rafah crossing to allow building materials in instead of Israel imposing custom duties if entered from her crossings. Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Dr. Mufid Shehab said the government is ready to respond to the interpellation.
