An Egyptian committee including representatives of ministries of justice and foreign affairs will head for Libya next Monday to discuss release of the Egyptian prisoners in Libya, 1000 in number. On the other hand, 20 Libyan prisoners, most of them accused of bringing and trafficking in drugs in Egypt, have been released and traveled to Libya last week after President Mubarak pardoned them in response to a Libyan initiative releasing 75 Egyptian prisoners following the Greater Bairam.
Speaking to Al-Masry Al-Youm, a media source said the number of Libyan prisoners in Egyptian prisons is 26, including a woman. Most of them have received punishments ranging between 20 years and life imprisonment.
A Libyan charity group chaired by leader Muammar Gaddafi's daughter, Aicha Gaddafi, had more than once called for releasing the Libyan prisoners in Egypt.
For his part, head of the Independence of judiciary and Legal Profession Center Nasser Amin has welcomed the Egyptian-Libyan initiative that has been launched by the Libyan leader who released 128 Egyptian prisoners last September. Amin told Al-Masry Al-Youm that he called on the Libyan authorities represented in director of the Judicial Police and the Attorney-General to release who received death sentences after they obtained concessions from the victim's families and those who received life imprisonment after they served two-thirds of the period.
