The High Dam is in good shape and protected by a number of defense lines preventing water leakage exceeding the allowed percentage, officials at the Water Stations Company and the High Dam Authority said. Media correspondents paid a visit yesterday to the High Dam to inspect it. During the visit, the officials admitted that there is a water leak, saying that it does not exceed the allowable percentage (3.6%) and that the efficiency of defense lines is up to 96.4%. High Dam Authority Chairman Mohamed Reda Al-Bendari said the dam is protected by three defense lines to prevent any water leaks. The first line of defense is the "core", which contains three tunnels for inspection. The second is considered as a "curtain" to prevent water leaks, while the third line includes pipes with holes at 114 meters above sea level to take any leaking water back to the Nile. Any development work in the High Dam Power Station does not affect the body of the dam, as the station is located behind the dam and not inside it, the chairman of Waters Stations Company Mohamed Faragallah said.
