Islamic Research Academy Secretary General, Shaykh Ali Abdel Baqi, said al-Azhar Shaykh Sayyed Tantawi's recent health problems have been caused by the stress and the strong psychological pressures he has recently been under after he shook hands with Israel's President Shimon Peres in New York. Meanwhile, radiographs and medical analyses showed that Tantawi's condition has considerably improved. He is currently at Wadi el-Nil Hospital. The hospital assistant director Mohamed Saad told Al-Masry Al-Youm that the patient's health condition was improving day after day and that he was expected to leave the hospital at the end of this week. Dr. Saad said he could not go into the details of al-Azhar Sheikh's physical conditions, as they cannot be revealed to the media. Shaykh Tantawi has so far been visited by several prominent political, judicial and religious personalities
