Minister of Electricity and Energy Hassan Younis said the winner of the tender aimed at choosing the world consulting firm that will supervise the establishment of the first-ever Egyptian nuclear power plant will be announced next week. After signing an agreement with the European development partners to finance wind power project at Jebel al-Zeit, Younis referred to the financial and technical analysis of the seven companies which have been competing to win the bid.
In another context, Younis issued a decree stopping the implementation of all the procedures for appointing teachers and assistant teachers at the Egyptian Atomic Energy Authority (EAEA) as well as all appointments made by the EAEA over the past sixty days, pending a decision in the complaints of some personnel of the authority. The complaints were referred to Al-Sayeed al-Tahan, the legal adviser to the Minister of Electricity and Deputy Chairman of the State's Council, so that he could investigate and ensure that they met legal standards and procedures.
Some 35 specialists at the EAEA, who managed to complete their studies and obtain master's degrees and doctorates, have complained about excessive appointments.
For his part, the Chairman of the Association of Nuclear Researches Helmi Fahmi said the Personnel Affairs Committee refused to receive papers from some personnel as some of them either exceeded the age for obtaining the master's degree, 40 years, or got "fair" as general grade.
