Assiut Governor Nabil el-Azabi called on Egyptian Copts in Kuwait to contribute to restoring Assiut's historic and architectural churches and monasteries. He said these monuments are visited by people from Egypt and indeed all over the world. He said so at the meeting held yesterday with Egyptian Copts in Kuwait. The meeting was held in the new Egyptian church built in the region of Holi on a 6,500 m2 land donated by the Kuwaiti government. The church will be officially inaugurated by Bishop Shenouda in the next few months. "Places of worship in Assiut are very important and we are very much concerned with restoring, renewing and building churches. This is a national duty in favor of our Christian brothers, as they have the same rights and duties" he said. He also stressed the Egyptians' love for each other over the course of history, the equality between Muslims and Christians and their belonging to one single country. El-Azabui had arrived in Kuwait three days ago invited by al-Farwaniya Governor Abdel Hamid el-Hujji to implement the twinning treaty between Assiut and al-Farwaniya.
