Palestinian security sources told Israeli Maariv newspaper that Hamas has recently arrested Mohamed Bahloul, the driver of the deposed Palestinian Prime Minister Ismail Haniyeh, on charges of spying for Israel and the Palestinian National Authority (PNA). Hamas police arrested Bahloul and a Palestinian person coming from Ramallah last week near Erez crossing. They had mobile cards belonging to Orange Israel, large quantities of gold bullions, Palestinian passports, and latest communications equipment.
A Hamas source confirmed that the two Palestinian spies were arrested, but he denied that one of them was Haniyeh's driver. Maariv had said a Palestinian citizen called Hassan Abdel Ghani Zaqut, a bodyguard for a senior officer in the PNA, arrived to Gaza last week from Ramallah. After passing the Erez crossing to the Palestinian side, Haniyeh's driver Bahloul was waiting for him in a black Mercedes owned by Haniyeh.
Once the car moved one kilometer towards Gaza, it was stopped by a Palestinian police ambush after suspecting the visitor coming from the West Bank. After careful inspection, the police found bottles of whiskey, tens of kilograms of gold, Palestinian passports and mobile lines by Orange Israel. Therefore, the police arrested Zaqut and Bahloul. After extensive investigations with the two, the Palestinian Interior Ministry accused them of spying for Israel and the PNA.
