Hassan Asfour, member of the Palestinian Legislative Council and prominent figure in Fatah, called the Hamas fight for power a 'Second Catastrophe'. "Some Arab countries try to eliminate the Palestinian Authority and Fatah by creating alternative movements and tools," he said. During the commemoration of the Palestinian Catastrophe that was held at the Tagamu Party on Tuesday, Asfour said: "The Arabs do not usually move except in case of massacres and bloodshed, which calls for a redefinition of the Palestinian cause, as it is ongoing and linked to the land, not just to massacres. If Arab solidarity is concerned with the cause, domestic violence will end."
Dr. Rifaat el-Said, President of the Tagamu Party, said Hamas and Fatah fall together and rise together. He said in his enthusiastic speech: "The Tagamu was the only party that stood by to the Palestinian cause throughout history and did not fail like others." Referring to the party's statement that was issued when President Sadat went to Jerusalem, he said: "The Muslim Brotherhood, The Aamal Party, the Mufti and the Grand Imam have agreed to the trip, while the Tagamu Party had to pay a heavy price in terms of arrests and attacks for rejecting it."
He added: "There is no hope for the cause except through joint efforts by the Palestinian factions under the slogan: Patriotism is Faith. And no Arab Head of State will help you because they all use the cause as a scapegoat for their failure whenever the opposition or the citizens call for democracy."
