The Egyptian security services have yesterday deported six Russian students of Al-Azhar University for not fulfilling the residency laws of Egypt. Among them was the son of a Chechen militant. A diplomatic source with the Russian embassy told Al-Masry Al-Youm that the Egyptian State Security arrested 42 Russian students on May 26 and 27. He said that they were studying at Al-Azhar University and that they were deported for not fulfilling the residence laws. Some of them were released, while 8 were deported last weak, and 6 more yesterday. Amnesty International asked not to deport Maqsood Abdoulaye Leiv, as he may be tortured by his father: a leader of a group of Chechen militants. It said all the other five students risk torture, too.
Nabil Rashwan, an expert in Russian affairs, said the reason for deportation has no political connotation, as they have violated the residence laws and worked in tourism.
