The World Health Organization (WHO) sent a medical delegation to Libya to check the plague that has recently appeared in limited areas there. Its Cairo office will prepare a report on the spread of the disease which will be submitted to the Member States, including Egypt. Meanwhile, the Health Directorate of Alexandria has yesterday declared a high state of alert in anticipation of the transmission of the disease from Libya to Alexandria, through the Libyans that cross the western border. During his inspection of the Salloum crossing yesterday, Health Minister Dr. Hatem el-Gabali said that Egypt did not record any case infected with the plague that appeared in Libya, especially on the western border. But he warned of the dead rodents that may spread the disease. Egypt's ambassador to Libya Mohamed el-Naqli said there is no need to worry or panic, as the disease in Libya is under control and all cases were completely cured, except for one that died. He told Al-Masry Al-Youm: "The disease appeared in one particular place in Libya, which the Libyan health team has sprayed with disinfectants. Also, this type of plague is low-risk bacteria," pointing out that the main problem of the mountain rodents that can transmit the disease, has been solved by bringing in specialized foreign companies to eliminate them.
