Details of the First Case of Swine Flu inside Egypt
Published in Almasry Alyoum on 04 - 06 - 2009

Al Masry El Youm published the details of the first case of Swine flu inside Egypt. The infected girl is Miriam Esam Fawzey, a 12-year old Egyptian girl who carries an American nationality.  The young girl has currently been admitted to Abbasyia Fever-treatment Hospital, section number two, for medical quarantine.  This hospital is known for its high isolation facilities.
Miriam was accompanied by her mother Hana Abed El Rahman, 42, who was also taken to hospital on precautionary measures.
Mariam has received dosages of Tami flu drug along with other treatment drugs.  According to current information, her physical condition is stable although her body temperature reached 37 degrees Celsius yesterday. Samples were taken from Hana and her results came back negative, although she is still being kept under close observation.
Miriam and Hana were aboard Royal Dutch Airlines (KLM) and arrived at Cairo International Airport, hall number three, at 3 a.m. Monday morning, 1 June.  They were preparing to spend the summer vacation in their family hometown, in Khafr Sheibein smart village, Sheibein Al Kanater division, in the Egyptian governorate of Al Dakahlia.
Since the Swine flu has become a national threat, body temperature scanners have been placed at the arrival gates of all airports.  All passengers, including Mariam and Hana, were examined upon arrival via these body temperature scanners.  If the machine detects a raise in temperature it simultaneously shows a light signal along with an alarming sound.
The medical quarantining doctors at the airport noticed that the machine indicated that Miriam's temperature was at 39.5 degrees Celsius; it showed no signs of high body temperature for the mother. Straight away both passengers were isolated inside the medical quarantine area within the airport, where the mother was asked questions about the condition of her daughter.
When asked about her daughter's current health condition, Hanna said that her daughter has suffered from a high body temperature and Coryza (a head cold) since last Friday; almost two days before their departure from the USA. After the interrogation process samples were taken from the nose and throat of Miriam and her mother. Shortly after, they were taken to Abbasyia Fever-treatment Hospital in a prepared ambulance for further examinations.
