May the Quran burning campaign be the light...
Published in Almasry Alyoum on 10 - 09 - 2010

Just my reflections on the sad news:
The Islamic world should totally ignore the inappropriate Quran burning campaign. This was a group of 50 people that feel such frustration and hatred towards Islam or Muslims and because they can't burn the religion nor Muslim nations, they collect some translated books of the Quran and plan to burn them.
A repeated human act, a meaningless plan, and an act of mere anger and hate--an act that has been done plenty of times throughout history.
Why would that provoke a response of hatred from our part and why would that incite violence?
Because our religion is valuable to us and because the Quran is our holy book and we feel terrible that it will be burned?
We shouldn't. Burning the book is nothing because the Quran was primarily meant to be in the hearts of Muslims, not printed words on paper. Burning the book would never affect the holy word of Allah.
What we really need to do is export our tolerance and extend our prayers and deliver our faith.
That would be the best answer; from that the cruel world might benefit.
Let the Quran burning threat be the light that would guide our lost hearts towards our own holy book--the book many of us forget about.
Let the Quran burning be the light that would deliver to the world the true essence of this religion. As global attention has gravitated toward the campaign--one that received such unanimous condemnation--let us gather and say a word to the world which is now ready to listen positively to us. Let us tolerate the insulting plan. Let us educate those who don't know.
Many true Muslims spoke before and no one listened. No one wanted to listen nor cared to. Let us speak now...by words and actions...
Any unintelligent reaction from our part would be as bad/sad as the plan itself.
May Allah bring peace to all people, everywhere.
