Cairo - The Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM), located in the Giza Pyramids' area, received 33 artifacts from Ahmed Fakhri museum in Haram area, Tarek Tawfiq, the museum curator, said. The move comes as part of the Antiquities Ministry's plan to transfer archaeological pieces from different warehouses and museums across the nation to the grand museum, to be partially opened in April of 2018. The deputy director of the Grand Egyptian Museum Conservation Center project said the project aims at transferring 71 artifacts in cooperation with Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). Some artifacts belonging to Egypt's most famous Pharaoh Tutankhamon were among the objects that were moved to the museum lately, he added. Described as the largest archaeological museum in the world, the museum is sited two kilometers away from the Giza pyramids. It covers 491,000 square meters and will house 100,000 artifacts.
