Cairo - Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry has reiterated Egypt's support for all UN efforts to reach a political settlement to the Yemeni crisis based on the outcome of national dialogue, the Gulf initiative and relevant Security Council resolutions. Shoukry meets with UN envoy to Yemen, Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed on Tuesday. They discussed the latest developments in Yemen, with focus on the security, political and humanitarian conditions, said Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Ahmed Abu Zeid.
The UN envoy posted Shoukry on the outcome of his contacts to address the situation in Al-Hudaydah province, stressing that this is key to reach a ceasefire in Yemen before direct negotiations start between the different Yemeni factions to reach a comprehensive settlement, Abu Zeid said.
The spokesperson added that Shoukry told Ould Cheikh Ahmed that Cairo is following up with great concern developments in Yemen.
He said the top diplomat also pressed for a unified international stance to end the suffering of the Yemeni people.
