CAIRO - Egypt's Al-Azhar, the world's oldest Sunni institute of Islamic learning, has strongly condemned the closure of the Al-Aqsa Mosque, the banning of Friday prayers, and the arrest of the Grand Mufti of Jerusalem, Sheikh Muhammad Hussein, and Sheikh Akrama Sabri, an Al-Aqsa Mosque Preacher, by the Israeli occupation authorities. Al-Azhar Al-Sharif said that what Israeli authorities have done is added to the group of crimes and violations committed against humanity, land and sanctities. In a statement, Al-Azhar warned that the Israeli occupation authorities are exploiting incidents in the Palestinian territories so as to carry out the judaization of Jerusalem and Al-Aqsa Mosque.
