Cairo - Egypt's Foreign Ministry welcomed on Thursday the newly reached agreement between Russia, Turkey and Iran on setting up four safe zones in Syria in an attempt to reduce violence in the war-torn country. The agreement was announced on Thursday during the current round of talks held between regional powers in Kazakhstan's capital Astana. The signing ceremony was briefly interrupted when members of a delegation from the Syrian armed opposition protested Iran's participation in the deal. The Egyptian Foreign Ministry praised all efforts to secure a ceasefire in all Syrian territories, facilitate humanitarian aid, and reach a political solution to the crisis that eliminates the presence of terrorist organisations in the country. The ministry also expressed hope that the agreement would lead to the resumption of the UN Geneva talks on Syria.
