Cairo - New Cairo Misdemeanor Court ruled to imprison Chairperson of Ghad Al Thawra Party Ayman Nour, currently residing in Turkey, and Muslim Brotherhood member Omar Afifi for five years accused of publishing false news. Egypt's prosecution referred Nour and Afifi for trial, both accused of instigating trouble against the state institutions and harming the interests of the country to destabilize it, via the programs they broadcast on satellite channels owned by the Muslim Brotherhood in Turkey. Ayman Nour is considered one of the Egyptian politicians who served as a member of parliament during the era oof former President Hosni Mubarak. He ran for presidential elections against Mubarak in 2005, as he ranked second after the former president. Afifi served as a colonel in the Egyptian police, while he retired in 2002. He transferred to live in the United States and was one of the major figures who called for the revolution against Egypt's former regime
