Cairo - The military spokesman said, on Wednesday, that Egypt's army chief-of-staff, Lt. General Mahmoud Hegazy, met with Lt. General Michael Garrett, the commander of US Army Central to discuss military cooperation between Egypt and US. They discussed means of expanding "mutual military cooperation" and the exchange of expertise and training in many fields. Many military commanders from both countries attended that meeting. General Hegazy expressed that he is looking forward to "continuing coordination and efforts to improve the outstanding military cooperation ties in a way that serves the mutual interests [of both countries] and ensure security and stability in the region." Egypt is one of the closest friends for the US from all Arab countries in the Middle East, and relations between the two countries is dating back in history to the peace agreement with Israel in 1979.
