Cairo - Egypt's President Abdel Fattah El Sisi has been invited by his Congolese counterpart Denis Sassou-Nguesso to attend the African Union (AU) High Level Committee on Libya, slated for January 25 in CongoBrazzaville, said Foreign Ministry Spokesman 'Ahmed Abu Zeid' on Sunday. The invitation was handed over to Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry during his meeting with his Congolese counterpart Jean-Claude Gakosso, Abu Zeid added. Shoukry stressed, during the meeting, Egypt's support for the political path in Libya, highlighting the necessity of swift action to settle the Libyan crisis and implement Sukhirat national reconciliation agreement, the spokesman noted. Shoukry also highlighted Egypt's current efforts to protect the Libyan State and its institutions. He pointed out to a meeting that Egypt will host on the mechanisms of Libya's neighboring countries.
For his part, the Congolese foreign minister voiced appreciation for Egypt's efforts in the Libyan file as well as its interest in backing stability and security in the North African country. The EU meeting on Libya, which is set to see participants from neighboring countries, aims to create more communication among parties concerned with the Libyan affair.
