Minister of Foreign Affairs Sameh Shoukry left Cairo on Tuesday، for US to hold talks on ways for boosting mutual relations and discussing the Syrian and Libyan crises. Shoukry was on his way to New York، where he will remain there for several days، during which he will meet with a number of senior US officials. Sources that participated in bidding farewell to the minister at the airport، revealed that the minister left Cairo on the head of a high-level diplomatic delegation to the US، where he will meet with a number of senior American officials to discuss boosting relations and cooperation between both countries. The minister will also discuss the latest security developments in the region، including the Syrian، Yemeni and Libyan crises، in addition to tackling the Palestinian-Israeli peace process and combating terrorism. Egyptian-American bilateral relations witnessed significant positive developments that contributed to the improvement of relations since the beginning of the new Democratic Administration when US President Barack Obama assumed power on January 20th، 2009. Within this context، these developments highlighted a growing private relationship between the two Presidents through direct and indirect multiple contacts started since Obama won the presidential election in November 2008، and culminated with US President's choosing Cairo to address his famous speech to the Islamic world on June 4th، 2009. Furthermore، the two presidents met during the Summit of the Group of Eight (G8) Industrial Nations in L'Aquila Italy، in July 2009، according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. US President-elect Donald Trump and President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi expressed mutual respect on several occasions before.
