Another ugly chapter of sectarian strife took place after an elderly Coptic Christian woman was stripped naked and dragged along the streets in the Minya governorate of Egypt as hundreds of onlookers watched. The old woman was attacked amid clashes over a love affair rumor involving a Christian man and a Muslim woman in the village of al-Karam in Minya. The woman, whose name has not been identified, was badly injured during the attack. The incident took place over the past weekend but came to light few days later following a statement by Bishop Makarios in Minya, who made clear that the Muslim mob attacked, looted and set fire to four houses belonging to Christian families. In turn, according to reports, a group of Christians gathered and set fire to three houses belonging to Muslims. The police finally managed to intervene and arrested 25 people involved in the attack.
