Egypt's new capital project to become MENA's biggest smart city
Published in Albawaba on 15 - 05 - 2016

Egypt anticipated new administrative capital city would be the biggest smart city in the Middle East (ME), an Egyptian official said Saturday.
Alaa Nessem, head of technical and communication in the New Urban Communities Authority (NUCA), made those comments during his speech 16th edition of the Global Symposium for Regulators (GSR).
GSR is held in Sharm El-Sheikh which is considered the first major regulatory event to be held since the global community agreed the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals in New York last September. The event is running between May 11 and 14.
Nessem added that NUCA is cooperating with the National Telecom Regulatory Authority (NTRA) to rectify the studies that was conducted by the consultancy offices, so that the studies are guaranteed to cope with global changes while building smart cities.
The goal of building a smart city is to improve quality of life by using technology to improve the efficiency of services and meet residents' needs.
Egypt is also set to build New Alamien City to be a smart village as well, the official noted.
The new capital of Egypt is a large-scale project announced by Egyptian housing minister Mostafa Madbouly during Egypt Economic Development Conference (EEDC) on 13 March 2015.
The new Capital city phase I would include building 42.000 housing units on an area of 33.000 feddans. In addition, it would encompass designing and building the ministerial buildings, the biggest park in the ME and an artificial lake.
Recently, Egypt has established a new company named Administrative Capital City for Urban Development, with a sole purpose of managing the proposed administrative capital city project.
