Minister of Civil Aviation, Mohamed Hossam Kamal el-Deen held Saturday a meeting to discuss effects of Russia's decision to halt flights between both countries, Al-Masry Al-Youm reported. Head of civil aviation authority, Mahmoud el-Zanaty, representatives from ministries of foreign affairs and interior, as well as homeland security, in addition to representatives from Russian embassy in Cairo, have all attended the meeting. The meeting dealt with the exchange of views on security measures regarding the Russian aircrafts departing from Egyptian airports. Also, the meeting addressed the Russian decision to suspend the flights of Egypt Air Company to Moscow, as the Egyptian side asked to be provided with the reasons that led to this decision and the duration of the suspension of flights. The Russian side said that the its aviation authorities are now studying the situation in light of the current circumstances witnessed in the region and will provide a response to the Egyptian side as soon as possible. However, El Deen stressed that Egypt understands the Russian side's position and precautionary measures taken in light of the growing threats of terrorism. He pointed out that Egypt provides security assistance to any country that asks for it.
